A Second Chance
Kwan Jang Nim Cariati's student Frank Adriano writes about his return to training in Taekwon-Do at Woodbridge Taekwon-Do.

Twenty six years ago I began a journey with Kwan Jang Nim Cariati. In the mind of a teenager I then defined success as a place at which a person arrives. In my case it was arriving at a designation of black belt in Taekwon-do. Today, as a 43 year old high school teacher, parent and husband, I now define success as having the unrelenting spirit with which to continue the journey. In October of 2011 the path of life lead me back to Kwan Jang Nim Cariati and consequently back to my journey.
The return to training in Taekwon-do with Kwan Jang Nim Cariati has changed my life. Ten years ago, as a result of a genetic predisposition to the disease and a sedentary lifestyle, I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. During this time, in an attempt to help regulate blood sugar levels, five different types of medication have been prescribed to me. Each new medication worked at controlling glucose levels and slowing the progression of the disease. As with most medication, there were side effects. However, three months of intense Taekwon-do training has resulted in the lowering of my blood sugar levels and for the first time in ten years, a reduction in prescribed medication. My Endocrinologist has suggested that I continue on my path. My return to Taekwon-do training has improved the health of my body, inspired the acuity of mind and strengthened the endurance of spirit.
Today I realize that one is defined by the path one chooses to follow. I have chosen to follow the path of Taekwon-do and I share that journey with my son Julian who is working hard to reach his goal of becoming a black belt. For this I thank Kwan Jang Nim Cariati who welcomed me back to what in my estimation is a second home.
