NOVEMBER NEWS
Mr. Fruitstone and I just came back from Venezuela,
having first passed through Aruba on the way there.
Our first visit was to a state run facility, that takes care of special needs students above the age of 15. We
met with the director and government officials in order to continue the ICTF Ch'ang-Hon Taekwon-Do program in their
facility. The next day, Friday, we taught morning classes, met for lunch with the assistant director from a private
Catholic school wherein we where able to get Taekwon-Do added to their sports program, then returned to teaching
till 8 pm.
Saturday was the yearly Copa Paraguana tournament. This was not as well attended as in the past due to the the
unstable political situation as well as the many storms which had washed out many roads, yet Chi Taekwon-Do students
from Caracas, who had come 9 hours by bus, participated and came away with many medals and the second place Championship
Cup. ICTF is very strong in Venezuela receiving constant inquiries from the other ITF groups who will be sending
a team in June to the ICTF Intercontinental Championships in Canada. Thanks to them for having taken care of us
so well. We look forward seeing them next year. Click HERE for photographs.

Over
200 competitors enjoyed some friendly competition on Saturday, October 29th at the BC Provincial Championships.
Mr. Barker, 6th degree, dusted off the moth balls and jumped into sparring competition in the mens 18 to 35 division,
even though he is a little over the 35 year mark. Joining that group was Mr. Stacey, 4th degree, also not quite
a spring chicken. Mr. Dumoulin, the host, ran a tight event, with excellent work from the volunteers. The beautiful
facility seemed custom-made for an event like this and everyone was commenting on how much fun they had. Being
Halloween weekend just added to the enjoyment of the tournament. Click HERE for photographs.

OCTOBER NEWS
Seminar UK October 01 and 02
Mr.
Fruitstone and I arrived Thursday morning to a rainy and cold day, having traveled over night from Miami into London,
Heathrow. We were met by Mr. Adam Porter and Mr. Tim Cooper who took us to the house of Mr. Nick Evans, whose parents
run a bed and breakfast. We were met at the door by Mrs. Evans who proceeded to show us around and to make sure
we were properly checked into our rooms. It was decided since we had some extra time before a home made dinner,
to walk around the town of Kingston in order to get lunch since we had arrived 5 hours ahead and in time for lunch.
We checked real estate prices in the window of the local real estate office that had pictures of homes for sale
only to discover sticker shock at the rate of exchange of almost $2.00 US dollars to one pound and gas being almost
$8.00 per gallon.
After lunch we had an impromptu patterns review in the back yard, back at Mr. Evan's house. Due to jet lag we took
a short nap and woke up to the smells of a traditional lamb dinner being prepared for us, along with all the trimmings,
and which was capped off with two home-made desserts of pie. Attending the feast along with us were the Evans family
along with the Cooper family. A great first day start and which continued throughout our stay. Special thanks go
to Mr. and Mrs. Evans who took great care of us during our stay and we look forward to staying with them again
next time in London.
Friday
was sightseeing day and we took in as many sights as we could traveling 40 minutes via the underground to see the
changing of the guard in Buckingham Palace, and on to the Tower of London to see the Crown jewels capped off with
a stroll by the river Thames past Big Ben to meet for Chinese dinner with some of Mr. Porters students. Saturday
10:00 A.M., after a hearty traditional English
breakfast, we arrived at the Kingston Grammar School gym to begin our seminar which concluded at 4 P.M. with only
brief breaks throughout the day. Martial arts history began the seminar, continuing on to nine Ch'ang Hon patterns
thoroughly covered and explained in the allotted 5 hours along with details of fundamental movements. Ending the
seminar were Hapkido self defence applications as taught by Mr. Keith Finch, 6th Dan. Special thanks to him for
"volunteering" to help us out. We then left for Heathrow airport to continue our journey northward, on
to the Manchester airport where we were met by Mr. Crawley who drove us to Southport. It was around 11 P.M. by
the time we checked into our hotel, having driven around 1 hour from the airport, and promptly to bed. Sunday,
again after a hearty English breakfast of eggs, beans, sausage, tomatoes and bacon, we were off to an all-girls
school gym, vacated for the weekend, wherein we spent 8 hours working on fundamentals, patterns and step sparring.
A good training time was spent by all and many questions, comparing pictures and replies in the encyclopedia, were
answered to the satisfaction of all.
Monday morning, free time and a 40 minute taxi ride, found us on our way to Liverpool, birth of the Beatles ending
at Albert Docks located on the Mersey River where the official Beatles museum is housed. An hour tour later, we
found our way inland to The Cavern, where the Beatles spent their time playing before becoming famous and where
Sir Paul McCartney gave a concert in 1999.
Rushing back to Formby, the taxi driver being an ex Shotokan black belt, we arrived back to our hotel in time to
be picked up to be taken to St. Lukes school to teach regular scheduled Taekwon Do classes. Mr. Fruitstone spent
the first hour with the "little darlings" class, reviewing basic stances, punches and blocks. He drilled
them on terminology and much was learned by them on fundamentals. We helped refresh Mr. Crawley's memory on advanced
patterns, while waiting for the adult class which followed, starting with vigorous warm up exercises, followed
with fundamental kicking, blocking punching and ending with lessons on controlling the distance while punching
or kicking.
.

.
Mr Fruitstone, after all had left at the end of class, spent the time reviewing patterns up to 3rd Dan with Mr.
Warren Walsh who has his own club and who told us he would be joining the ICTF this month. Adjourning to eat dinner,
finishing around 10:30 P.M., we then retired to leave at 4:45 A.M. the next morning to catch our return flight
back to Miami.
What a great trip, thanks to Mr. Fruitstone for keeping me company!!! Everyone was extremely polite and cordial
taking great care of us throughout our stay and very eager to learn the intricacies of Ch'ang Hon Taekwon Do. The
ICTF is well represented in the UK by the hard work and efforts of Mr. Porter and Mr. Crawley along with the support
of their students. They look forward to sending a team to the ICTF Intercontinental Championships in Toronto, next
June 3rd, and we look forward to our return engagement as well. Cheers…..
Master Steiner, 8th Dan, ICTF Technical Committee
Chair
NEWS
ICTF Technical Seminar, Northern UK
"Master
Steiner, 'the human encyclopedia'; what an apt nickname. We now know why he got it ! What this great Master doesn't
know about TaeKwon-Do just isn't worth knowing. Not only can he verbalize his knowledge in terms that anyone can
understand (yes even a thickie like me) but he is supremely adept at translating it into physical application.
To watch Master Steiner perfoming the patterns and fundamental movements of the art is to witness a true Maestro
creating a masterpiece. All the students and instructors at the 8 hour seminar came away with much more than they
came in with, this was then consolidated when he and Mr. Fruitstone taught classes at my club the following night.
Everyone at ICTF-UK would like to pass on their thanks to Master Steiner for his help and understanding and much
thanks also to Mr. Fruitstone for his more than considerable input over the three days. If Mr. Fruitstone is the
face of the future masters of TaeKwon-Do then the art is in very good hands indeed.
Again, many thanks, Brian Crawley. ICTF-UK."

50th Anniversary of Taekwon-Do in Las Vegas,
Nevada
The International Ch’ang-Hon
Taekwon-Do Federation (ICTF) held the 50th Anniversary of Taekwon-Do event on July 21 and 22, 2005 in Las Vegas,
Nevada. This event was a tribute to the founders and pioneers of Taekwon-Do and served as an opportunity to provide
special recognition and thanks to the individuals responsible for developing and spreading Taekwon-Do throughout
the world. ICTF members were honoured and humbled to be in the presence of many of Taekwon-Do’s most influential
individuals. Those that were honoured include Grand Master Nam Tae Hi, Honourary President of the ICTF,
Grand Master C. K. Choi, Grand Master Yang Woo Yup, Grand Master Cho Sang Min and
Dr. Dong Ja Yang.

The weekend’s events began on Friday evening with a banquet and autograph session held at the Atrium Suites Hotel,
where ICTF members were able to meet and converse with many of Taekwon-Do’s original pioneers. This provided ICTF
members with an opportunity to gain a first-hand appreciation for the challenges faced by the pioneers as they
embarked on their journey of taking Taekwon-Do all over the globe and making it one of the most popular martial
arts in the world. A highlight of the banquet was the presentation of Korean Taekwon-Do Association Dan Certificates
to Master Mel Steiner, 8th Dan; and Master Joe Cariati, 7th Dan. United States
Taekwon-Do Federation (USTF) delighted the crowd by pledging his organization’s support to the ICTF.

The main event of the weekend was the Taekwon-Do 50th Anniversary tournament which was held on Saturday at the
Las Vegas Sports Complex. The event began with the recognition of each of the
pioneers and thanking them for their commitment throughout the years. Several of the pioneers addressed the crowd
and provided inspiring thoughts and anecdotes related to their experiences as Taekwon-Do practitioners.
The opening ceremonies continued with several awe-inspiring demonstrations of Taekwon-Do agility and power. Demonstrators
included patterns, breaking and self-defence featuring the following individuals and teams: Master Richard Parris, 8th Dan;
Young Brothers Taekwon-Do, Pittsburgh; Chi Taekwon-Do, Miami; Forseith Warriors, Forseith, Missouri; and Franca Facciolo, Woodbridge Taekwon-Do.
The main event of the day was, of course, the sparring and patterns competition. The tournament director, Master
Craig Stanley, coordinated the successful participation of over 400 predominantly black belt competitors from the
United States, Canada and Europe. As expected, the competition in the Black Belt divisions was phenomenal for both
men's and women's divisions. The patterns and sparring competitions were technically excellent and high-spirited,
and demonstrated once again why Taekwon-Do is one of the most exciting and competitive events around.
The 50th Anniversary of Taekwon-Do, was a success for both fans and competitors alike. The Las Vegas setting, the
opportunity to meet and interact with Taekwon-Do’s pioneers, and a first-class tournament all helped add up to
an enjoyable and very worthwhile experience.

During the Annual General Meeting on 22 July, 2005 held in Las Vegas Nevada, the Executives of the ICTF unanimously
agreed to consider renaming the Juche pattern. The reason for this is explained HERE. As this represents a significant change to the Legacy documents
left by General Choi, the ICTF Executive Committee would like to know what the ICTF membership thinks about this.
